Robert A. Kent

July 4, 1941 ~ September 1, 2020 (age 79)


Funeral Services for Robert A. Kent, 79, a resident of Davenport, will be 11am Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The service will be livestreamed on this website by clicking the button at the bottom.  It will be available approximately 10:30 Wednesday morning.  Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 5-7pm Tuesday, September 8th at the funeral home.  Due to the current health crisis, masks must be worn and social distancing respected while attending both the visitation and service.  Robert passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Western Reserve Hospital, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio after putting up one hell of a fight.

Robert was born July 4, 1941, a son of Melvin Griest and Bernice Appleby.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corp.  Robert married Mary Callahan August 6, 1966 in Rock Island.  Robert was the Operations Manager at General Electric and in 1984 opened Kentzee’s Reconditioned Appliance in Davenport. 

Robert enjoyed wheeling and dealing, and going to the casino.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Robert was a 32nd Degree Mason, Golden Glove Boxer, Auctioneer and a member of the American Legion. He also enjoyed spending his 4th of July birthday with his family on the lake in New York.

Those left to honor Robert’s memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Mary; children:  Kary St. Jules, Vallejo, California; Dr. Robert (Dr. Jennifer) Kent, Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Theresa Kent-Malone, Davenport; 6 grandchildren:  Idrise Ward-El, Tyler Malone, Tre Kent, Elizabeth Kent, Katherine Kent, and Sarah Kent; sisters:  Sandy Lambert, Sharon Dobbs, Jackie (Butch) Ellison and Cathy (Larry) Kappelu; his beloved dog, Lady and best friend of 72 years, Lester Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog, Molly.
