Norma Schumann

July 6, 1928 — January 20, 2022

Norma Lee Schumann, 93, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Good Samaritan, Davenport.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00p.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until service time at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.

Norma was born on July 6, 1928 in Johnson City, Tennessee, a daughter of Fred and Melba (Owen) Venable.  She was united in marriage to Lawrence Clark in 1946 and in 1958 to Boyd Schumann who passed away in 1982.

Norma lived most of her life (62 years) at the big house on Lincoln Court in Davenport where she enjoyed sitting on the porch, yardwork, gardening, tending to her fish pond and watching her dogs.  Her yearly Christmas trees were looked forward to by many.  From the mid 60’s to 1982 you would find her camping at Shady Creek along the Mississippi River.  She never did drive but she would gladly have a cigarette with anyone.  Norma made many friends and helped many elderly Davenport residents in her nursing and activities director career at The Kahl Home and the Good Samaritan Society where she worked until she was 85.  She was fortunate to have been cared for by her daughter Christine Clark and son-in-law Roger Demarest until she was moved into Good Samaritan as a resident.

Norma is survived by sons: Lawrence (Carol) Clark, Durant, and Daniel Clark, Davenport; son-in-law, Roger Demarest, Davenport; 12 grandchildren 35 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Boyd, she was preceded in death by her two daughters: Kimberly Schumann Daniels in 2006 and Christine Clark in 2020, as well as her siblings: Jim and Fred Venable, and a sister Merle Perlenfein.
