Mercedes Hasenmiller

Mercedes Mary Hasenmiller, 97, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2021. There will be a private family service assisted by Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home.

Mercedes was born November 7, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Angel and Cecilia Casteleiro.  She graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy in 1941 and was united in marriage to Robert Joseph Hasenmiller on February 23, 1943.  Life was full being owner of a family business and raising her children while remaining active in the BVM Alumni Association as a member of St. Paul the Apostle parish; later working as a legal secretary. After a move to Florida, she created the retail establishment Merry Merchants, in Dunedin. She enjoyed playing bridge, had a passion for writing poetry and as an avid reader, consumed the New York Times ‘front to back’ until the end.  Her perseverance, progressive attitude, quick wit and love touched many.  She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.

Those celebrating her life include her children; David Hasenmiller, Janet (Bruce) Gosser, Heidi (William Scott) Walker, Ann Hupp and Moira Noth.

Her grandchildren; Natalie Walker, Joseph Gosser, Scott Walker, Kate Traxler, Mitchell Walker, Emily Taft, Claire Hasenmiller, Nathan Hupp, Elizabeth Sagar and Eloise Hupp. And great-grandchildren; Tyler, Olivia and Margo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son Thomas, her sister Mary and daughter-in-law Rosemary.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Trinity Hospital and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.  Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
