Marie Bruhn was born September 2, 1932, in rural Walcott, Iowa the daughter of John and Frances (Geurink) Knickrehm. Marie was united in marriage to Elmer T. Bruhn on Feb, 15,1958. They celebrated 30 years of marriage before his passing on August 12,1988. She was a longtime resident of Davenport. Marie graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, St Ambrose Nursing College, and St Ambrose University with a B.S.

She worked as head nurse of surgery at Mercy Hospital for several years before joining her sister Nelda Lovewell at Ruhl & Ruhl as a real estate agent. Marie retired in the mid 1990s. Marie was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory and remained active in the parish. As well, she volunteered as a literacy tutor, managed the scheduling that provided dental care for children in need, and managed St Anthony’s Window, serving approximately 1,500 meals each month.

Marie was boisterous and loved to joke. She found great joy in being with family and friends. She lead annual family vacations and often helped manage extended family receptions and celebrations. She carried on the tradition of her mother in making Christmas ornaments for her children. Marie regularly went on bicycle rides, walks, to swim classes, and out to dinner with friends. She was a member of bowling and golf leagues. Marie was also the coordinator of many class reunions.

Those closest to her and left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeff Bruhn, Minneapolis, MN; Maribeth Kasi, St. Cloud, MN; Susan Bruhn, Kanas City, MO; and Lisa Moreno, Boise, ID. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. As well by her husband Elmer, Marie was preceded in death by her brothers, Al, Ed, Bob, Ralph, and John Knickrehm; and sister, Nelda Lovewell. She was the last of her Knickrehm generation.

The immediate family wishes to extend deep gratitude to family and friends, especially to Donna and Dorothy Knickrehm, plus the caregivers at Silvercrest Assisted Living and Genesis Hospice, as well as the clergy and lay people of Davenport Diocese. Their efforts have been a great comfort.
