Joseph Verre

Joseph J. Verre, 98, a resident of Davenport, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at his home.  A memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life will be 11:00a.m., Tuesday August 31, 202, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home.  His family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00a.m.- 11:00a.m. Per his wishes, the rite of cremation was accorded, and inurnment will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Joseph John Verre was born August 29, 1922, in Davenport, a son of Andrew and Atelia (Cencetti) Verre.  He served in the US Army during World War II.  Joseph married Bernice (Hopewell) June 30, 1949, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport.  They have celebrated 72 years of marriage and memories.

Joseph worked as a supervisor at the Rock Island Arsenal for 36 years.  He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #26, the Elks and was a former member of the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Pallbearer Club.  He was known for his vibrant smile and infectious laugh.  He was a fun loving, happy go lucky guy.  If you ever had the honor to meet him, you would have been a friend for life.

Those left to honor Joseph’s memory include his wife, Bernice, Davenport; son, Steve Verre, Davenport; grandchildren:  Destiny (Andrew) Puente, Naperville, IL; Josh (Katie) Verre, Neeses, SC; Samuel (Valerie) Gonzales, Davenport; granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Verre, Seattle; great-grandchildren:  Miles Verre, Rory Vogt, Joseph and Ty Puente, John and Katie Verre, Milo and Maverick Gonzales; and nephews:  John Faramelli and Jim (Cathy) Faramelli, of Rock Island.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Cynthia Verre; infant daughter, Christine; grandson, Jeremiah Verre; and siblings:  Roy, Pearl and Leo.
