Ardell Mae Libberton was born on December 31, 1936 in Clinton, a daughter of Guy and Pauline (Gerten) Libberton. Her dad was in the Navy and his career took Ardell and her two sisters to many places. Her first marriage to an Air Force pilot continued to take her around the United States and the world including Hawaii, England, Scotland, Denmark, Thailand and Spain.

She graduated from Fulton High School, attended Gradwohl School of Laboratory Tech in St. Louis and later worked for the Social Security Administration.  Moving to Davenport in 1978, Ardell lived with her sister Helen and began working for Dr. Don Doering, retiring from his office in 1985. While working there she met Rex Couchman and they were married on November 16, 1979 at First Presbyterian Church, Davenport.  They were avid travelers, visiting her son in Germany and experiencing Europe  together. She and Rex also traveled the entire United States in their 40 year marriage visiting every state capital. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2019.

Ardell loved her large blended family. She enjoyed her life and had many hobbies. In the past she consistently bowled a perfect game, played cutthroat mahjong,  and always had a good book to read. One of her favorite memories was sewingwith her mother who was an excellent seamstress.
