Willie Alex Veasey

Willie Alex “Chill/Butchi” Veasey, 77, of Rock Island, departed this life on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Anthony Hospice Center, Rock Island. A memorial service celebrating his life will be 11:00am-1:30pm, Saturday, May 2, at Pentecostal Church of God, 1234 Ripley St. Davenport. The repass will be 2:00pm at the Martin Luther King Center in Rock Island. Memorials may be made for the family. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Veasey aka “Chill/Butchi” was born February 9, 1949, in West Helena Arkansas, to Willie and Sarah B (Angel) Veasey. He attended Rocky High School in Rock Island. After graduation, he joined the Army and while stationed in Vietnam in 1969, he not only fought in the Vietnam War, but he also served as a cook. He later received his welding degree from the Chicago Welding Institute. He was employed at Moline Forge for many years as a machine operator alongside his father Willie and brothers Anthony and Alvin. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God under the leadership of the late Bishop McAuthur Anderson, where he was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost. He was later ordained in ministry by the Pentecostal Assembly of the World (PAW).

He loved expounding on and debating the Word of God. He often bragged about being in the PAW Council’s Bible bowls and winning them. He was very knowledgeable in the Word of God. Among many other things, he loved to cook and was very good at it. He enjoyed life, his children, and family. He always loved, believed, and stressed the importance of family being together and knitted in love no matter what. He said, “family was everything” It’s what momma taught. He was a very soft-spoken man of few words. He felt that if you don’t bring none you won’t get none. Now if you did something to him, he was surely going to get you back and you knew when he did. That was Chill.
