William “Bill” Stohlmeyer, 67, of Blue Grass, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, at his home. The rite of cremation will be accorded and services to celebrate his life will begin with visitation from 4 -7 pm on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. You are invited to pray the Rosary with the family at 4 pm. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on, Monday, July 8, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson, WI, with inurnment following in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose University or American Heart Association.
William Joseph Stohlmeyer was born August 15, 1956, in Monroe, WI, a son of Clarence and Evelyn (Schmeltz) Stohlmeyer. He met Mary Buch, his future wife, when they were playing in their high school band, and they were united in marriage on September 18, 1976, in Tennyson, WI. He earned his bachelor’s in business economics from St. Ambrose University in 1984.
Prior to his retirement, Bill worked for John Deere – Davenport Works as a welder, assemblyman, fork truck driver and was a representative for UAW 281.
He loved golfing, hunting, singing Elvis tunes at Karaoke, and was a lifetime member of the Trapshooting Association. He was a fan of the Cubs and Packers. He enjoyed traveling around the world. Some highlights were visiting Germany and Thailand with his wife and daughter, going on safari in Africa with friends. He also traveled around the US. Highlights included an anniversary trip to Hawaii, golfing in North Carolina and spring training with the Cubs in Arizona.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Mary; twin daughters Emily and Erin Stohlmeyer all of Blue Grass; brother Harold (Mary Pat) Stohlmeyer of Lancaster, WI; sisters Eva Lyons of Stoughton, WI, sister-in-law Betty Stohlmeyer, of Chicago, IL, Pauline “Teenie” Wiezorek of Dickeyville, WI, sister-in-law Sandy Stohlmeyer of Dubuque, IA, Marianne (Bob) Durst of Potosi, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elizabeth Powers, Henry Stohlmeyer, Joseph Stohlmeyer, Harriett Stohlmeyer, Michael Stohlmeyer, and Paul Stohlmeyer.
