William Donald “Wally” Marriott, affectionately known as “Billy Bob” to many of his friends, died peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Senior Star, Davenport.
Born on August 18, 1937, to Chester and Marie (Kennedy) Marriott, Wally lived a life defined by service, family, friendship, patriotism, humor, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in 1955 and enjoyed a long career in the printing industry as a proud member of the Graphic Communications International Union (GCIU) for 29 years.
Wally honorably served his country in both the Army and the Air Force, dedicating a combined seven years of military service. A proud patriot throughout his life, he flew the American flag daily from his front yard and never missed an opportunity to express his love for his country and gratitude for those who served.
On March 17, 1989, Wally married Juanita Louise Nycum, lovingly known as “Nita.” Together they shared 21 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in December 2010. Their marriage was built on love, laughter, family, and treasured traditions. Together, they established the beloved annual “Breakfast in the Park” celebration held each Fourth of July.
A lifelong member of the German American Central Society of Peoria, Illinois, Wally proudly served as President of Harmonie Concordia for two years. Known affectionately as “Billy Bob,” he was admired for his infectious laugh, quick wit, storytelling ability, and larger than-life personality.
An avid outdoorsman, Wally loved duck hunting throughout Iowa and annual fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. Whether sitting in a duck blind, casting a line into a quiet northern lake, or gathered around a table sharing stories, Wally found his greatesthappiness in the company of those he loved. Above all else, Wally was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his children Joseph William Marriott (Jeanne), Donald Marriott (Sibyl), Danny Marriott (Amy), Sharon Ferguson (Conan), and Edward “Les” Strishock; grandchildren Shannon (Justin), Joseph (Linsey), Marissa (Arwin), Hayden, Garrett, Kirstin (Kenner), Christopher, David (Emily), Dennis (Madeline), Harley Scott, and Andrew John; and great-grandchildren Evelyn, Fiona, Brady, Kaiya, Reya, Matilda, and Calvin.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Senior Star for the compassion, friendship, dignity, and exceptional care they provided during the last three years of Wally’s life.
No services are planned at this time. A celebration of Wally’s life will be scheduled at a later date and announced to family and friends.
Wally will be remembered for his devotion to family, love of country, generous spirit, legendary sense of humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. His laughter filled every room he entered, and his stories will continue to be shared for generations.
Additionally, he was preceded in death by granddaughter Sara, sisters Marge Brown and Mary Pat Marriott, and brothers Tom, Bob, and Dick Marriott.
