Walter F. Smith, 87, a resident of Davenport, died Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

A Celebration of Life for Walter and Barbara Smith will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be decided.

Walt was born February 9, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Francis and Dorothy (Beckwith) Smith. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara J. Reuter, September 28, 1958. She preceded him in death October 9, 2022.

Walt worked as a dispatcher for J.I. Case, retiring in 1988. He then worked for Tri-City Fabrication. Walt was a Lionel Train collector, avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan and Mountain Dew connoisseur. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and their weekly luncheons with long-time friends, Gene and Deanna Oppenheimer.

Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Tim (Debbie) Smith of Walcott and Brad (Cheryl) Smith of Davenport; grandchildren, Megan (Gabe) Brown, Alex (Ashleigh) Smith, Natalie and Nick Smith; and brother, Bob Buelow of Clinton, Iowa.  

In addition to his wife, Walt was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Don and David.

The Smith Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Select Specialty Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion given to Walt and Barb.
