Virginia Allison

September 2, 1923 — November 7, 2017

Virginia D. Allison, 94, a resident of Davenport, Iowa formerly a longtime resident of Dubuque, Iowa passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Davenport Lutheran Home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the family. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia Delores Glovik was born on September 2, 1923 in Dubuque, Iowa a daughter of Leo and Gertrude (Weiser) Glovik. She was united in marriage to Robert A. Allison on June 12, 1942 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1994.

Virginia retired at 75 years of age from US Bank in Dubuque as a custodial engineer and “jane of all trades.” She loved to volunteer including many years at the Dubuque County Fair, Watanye for over 20 years and was a member of TOPS for over 40 years. She also enjoyed giving her time and prayers to St. Patrick’s and Holy Ghost Parishes in Dubuque.

Virginia also enjoyed reading, shopping, fishing, and desserts, but “just a sliver!”

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Jerrie (Craig) Cheffer, Bettendorf; grandchildren: Cory Cole, Benton, Wisconsin, Michelle (Mark) Skelley, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Dale Cocayne, Jr., Davenport, and Shane (Lonnie) Cole, Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; great grandchildren: Tyler Cocayne, Davenport, Nicholas Cole, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Nate Cocayne, Davenport, a sister, Sallee Callacci, East Dubuque, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Donald Cole, a son-in-law, Dale Cocayne, Sr., a grandson, Christopher, Cole, and siblings: Frances, Lucy, Rita, Josephine, and Albert. May they rest in peace.
