Vickie Lynn Slyter

Funeral services celebrating the life of Vickie Slyter, 65, of Davenport, will be held at 10am on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be 4:30 – 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 6:30pm that all are invited to attend.  Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.

Vickie Lynn Slyter was born in Davenport, IA on February 13, 1958, to the late Ronald Lee “Toby” Slyter and Mary Margaret (York) Slyter. She passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, with her family by her side at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. She attended Central High School, Scott Community College, and St. Ambrose University before becoming a social worker for the Department of Human Services where she retired in 2020.

Vickie was a kind, beautiful soul that loved her Iowa Hawkeyes and her proud Irish heritage.   She would go out of her way for anyone and was always there for those who needed her. She adored babysitting her great nieces and nephew and going on trips with family. She loved to travel and was so happy when she got to take her dream trip to Ireland. She was taken too soon from her friends and family who will miss her dearly and more than she could have ever thought possible. Her infectious laughter and smile will be missed by all. 

She leaves behind her son Mathew Slyter of Davenport; granddaughter Holland Slyter of Taylor Ridge, IL; mother Mary Slyter of Davenport; brother Rick Slyter of Davenport; sister Kim (Adam) Schnoor of Long Grove; many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. 

She is preceded in death by her father Ronald Slyter, grandmother Irene York and grandfather LaVern “Sam” York.
