Vernastine Payne

Vernastine Marie Payne, 66, of Davenport, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus, Davenport.     Per her request the rite of cremation was accorded and there will be a memorial service and time of sharing held at Noon on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  There will be a memorial gathering from 11am until the time of sharing at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Vernastine was born on March 9, 1955, in Davenport, a daughter of Richard and Verna (nee Watkins) Payne, Sr.  After graduating high school, she earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration.

Vernastine was a very giving and compassionate woman and was the type of person that would give you the proverbial shirt off her back.  Her giving and compassionate nature served her well in the field of healthcare where she worked training CNAs at the Good Samaritan Center in Davenport for 25 years.  She had also worked at the Davenport Lutheran Home.

She loved to watch her soaps and action movies, especially those starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Sylvester Stallone.  She also loved to spoil her grandkids, sewing, and getting her nails done.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter Megan (DeMarcus Hanes, Sr) Payne of Davenport; grandchildren DeMarquis Hanes, MaKaree Hanes, DeMarion Hanes, DeMarcus Hanes Jr, DeMarquez Dothard – Hanes Sr, Desmond Hanes; great grandchildren DeMarquez Dothard - Hanes Jr, DeMarcus Hanes III, Damylo Hanes, Dasya Hanes, Anastasia Hanes, DeMarius Hanes; father Richard Payne Sr of Davenport; sister Rebecca (Dean) Jantzen of Las Vegas; brothers Nathan Payne of Davenport, and Jerry Payne of Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and brothers Richard Jr and Nathaniel.
