Mrs. Runge passed away Friday, November 28, 2025, at Ridgecrest, Davenport.
Vera Bernice Ullrich was born April 13, 1930, in Davenport, to Wilhelm Andrew and Minnie Dorothy (Ingraham) Ullrich. She was united in marriage to William H. “Bill” Runge Sr. on April 25, 1950, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2005.
In her early years she had worked for the phone company before focusing on raising her and Bill’s six children.
Vera took great pride in her garden, especially her beautiful roses, which she tended with patience and care. When she wasn’t outside nurturing her flowers, she could often be found around a card table, competing in euchre or 500. Her card club with her cousins was a treasured tradition that brought years of laughter and friendly rivalry.
She was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed watching baseball. Some of her happiest memories were made while traveling, whether vacationing with her sisters or attending Navy reunion trips with her husband.
Above all, she was devoted to her own family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished every chance to spend time with them. She was their babysitter, biggest supporter, and gentle guide, offering love and comfort in a way only she could.
Survivors include her children Bill (Kathy) Runge Jr, Richard (Karen) Runge, Scott (Bobbi Jo) Runge, all of Davenport, Lizabeth (Jeff) Langston of Joliet, IL, Trish (Willie) Negus of Davenport, Timothy (Stephanie) Runge of Walcott; 22 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by her brothers Ray, Charles, and Melvin “Sonny” Ullrich, and sisters Dorothy Meyer, Evelyn Giles, Gertrude Van Hoosier, and Shirley Schaab.
