Thomas G.C. Smith

Thomas “Tom” Smith, 75, of Davenport, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis, Davenport. Per his request cremation will be accorded and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted the family.

Thomas Gale Corben Smith was born June 29, 1949, in Iowa City, to Clarence L. and Marjorie V. “Marge” (Cates) Smith. He was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Scherer in 1973.

Prior to his retirement, Tom had worked as a forklift operator for Toyota and as a mechanic for L.A.E. Auto Sales alongside his brother Larry. He loved working on cars.

Survivors include his daughter Melinda (Patrick) Dreher of Elkmont, AL; grandchildren Amanda (Gary) Loyd, Colton Dreher, Aubree Dreher, Paige (Alex) Cagle, Monica (Brandon) Smith; great grandchildren Michael, Blake, Addison, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Brittany, Catherine, Brandon Lee, Lucas, and one on the way; siblings Larry (Debi) Smith, Marianne (Jim) Brundies, Harold Mathias, Kenny (Kelli) Mathias, and Leslie Blackwell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Nylaya Marcine “Marcy” Smith Fuller.
