Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas J. Otting, 88, of Bettendorf, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 N. Main Street, Davenport. The Mass will be livestreamed by clicking the following link: St. Anthony YouTube Page Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. There will be additional visitation in the gathering space at church one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Empowering Abilities (formerly HDC), Assumption High School, or the Women’s Choice Center.

Mr. Otting died peacefully, Thursday, June 12, 2025 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Thomas James Otting was born on August 1st, 1936 in Cascade, Iowa, the son of Sylvester and Mary Vivian (Moore) Otting. He was a proud graduate of St. Anthony Grade School in 1950, St. Ambrose Academy in 1954 and St. Ambrose College in 1958. Tom was united in marriage to Carol Ann Sandway on November 17, 1962. She preceded him in death on November 9th, 1969. He was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Shadle on December 4th, 1970.

Tom “Otts” played basketball at both St. Ambrose Academy and St. Ambrose College. His legendary left-handed hook-shot led him to the St. Ambrose University Hall of Fame in 1983.

Tom enjoyed a successful career in banking, working at Davenport Bank and Trust as Vice President of Business Development and later as Vice President of Development of the Mercy Hospital Foundation and an inaugural member of Quad City Bank retiring in 2000.

Tom was a lifelong, fervent volunteer and served our community in many ways including as a member of the Scott County Conservation board for twelve years and on the Scott County Board of Supervisors for six years. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was the chairman/founder of the St. Ambrose Academy Reunions. His passion for everything Assumption Knights and the Hawkeyes was legendary.

He loved his faith, family, and his friends, along with good food, great laughter, golf, crosswords, and the perfect Brandy Manhattan.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Barb, Davenport, children: Michael (Joyce) Otting, Davenport, Mary (Michael) Dolis, Chicago, Timothy (Judith) Otting, Apple Valley, MN, and Molly (Jason) Carlson, Davenport; grandchildren: Vincent Otting, Benjamin Otting, Elizabeth Haberkorn, Madeline Otting, Becka (Ty) Keith, Cameron Otting, Thomas (Samantha) Dolis, and Nicholas Dolis; sisters-in-law, Joyce Doelger, Mesa, Arizona, Susan Otting, Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at MercyOne Genesis, Davenport, the many visiting nurses, and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

In addition to his wife, Carol, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Dennis, Fredrick and Alwyn Otting, Elinor DeVine, Jeanne Dunagan, Elaine Brown, and Gloria Butler; son-in-law Joshua Haberkorn, and great-granddaughter Quinn.
