Terrie O'Neill

Terrisa Ann “Terrie” O'Neill, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Born on May 26, 1950, in Davenport, Terrie lived a life marked by love, service, and devotion to her family and community.

Terrie was the daughter of the late Marlene J. (Henricksen) and Thurman J. Mitchell. She grew up with her brother, Patrick Mitchell. Terrie attended Davenport Central High School, graduating in 1968, and it was here that she laid the foundations of a life rooted in community service and care for others.

Her passion for helping people was evident from a young age. As a teenage volunteer Mercy-ette, Terrie dedicated over 1,100 hours to comforting patients and providing companionship during their recovery. Her career path took her through various roles, including ushering at John O'Donnell Stadium, where she met the love of her life, James O'Neill. They married on January 6, 1973, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned over five decades.

Terrie also worked as a hostess and cocktail waitress at Shogun Steakhouse, but her greatest calling was nurturing the next generation. She transformed her home into a vibrant daycare, offering love, guidance, and a safe haven for many children. Her ability to make everyone feel loved and seen was truly a God-given gift.

A member of the Davenport Jaycees, Terrie was ever-present in her community. She found joy in simple pleasures, like bowling leagues, bingo nights, her love for music, and her laughter and warmth were contagious to those around her.

Terrie's family was the heart of her world. She leaves behind her devoted husband, James O'Neill; her children, Kelly O'Neill and Tim (Buffy) O'Neill; and her adored grandchildren, Payton, Ella, Keaton, and Avery. Her legacy of love and care continues to shine through them.

A service to celebrate Terrie's life will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, located at 614 N. Main Street, Davenport, IA 52803. The family invites those who knew and loved Terrie to join them in honoring her memory. Burial will be held in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the service begins on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , Greater Quad Cities Chapter, in Terrie's honor. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at PACE for their compassionate care and advocacy, and to the dedicated staff at the Kahl Home for treating Terrie with kindness, compassion, and dignity.
