Tanya Marie Smith was born on September 10th 1968 to Cleveland Barnes and the late Barbara Barnes in Chicago, Illinois. The family relocated to Davenport, Iowa in 1970. Tanya attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, Wood Jr. High and later was a part of the first graduating class of North High School in 1986. She attended Marycrest College with hopes of becoming a teacher. Tanya married the late Corey Harris on December 24th 1994. She later married Del Smith on November 19th 2006. From this union they were blessed to parent Kendyl, Drew and Garrett. Tanya was a member of Mount Olive Church of God In Christ growing up, and later became a member of Mt. Sinai Church of God In Christ. Tanya loved to shop, sew, play Scrabble, travel and attend church conventions. By the way, she liked to shop! Tanya loved to sing, loved a good choir, and loved to witness a good praise break! She had a way of making you smile and laugh. The proudest moment for Tanya was when she became a mother. Although it was challenging, she loved raising her crew. Tanya was strong and did not let the obstacles of life stop her. Her diagnosis did not define her, she redefined her diagnosis. The strength of the Lord carried her through to her final moment.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Del; her children Kendyl, Drew and Garrett; Father Cleveland Barnes; Sisters Tiffany (Corey) Parker and Tracia Barnes; Nephew Corey Jr. and Niece Baylee. The countless number of family members and friends that loved Tanya are too extensive to be named. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
