Sylvia Kay Tarchinski, 86, of Park View, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, peacefully after a battle with cancer.
Sylvia, the only child of Galon and Pauline Holzer, was born on July 10, 1939, in Rock Island, Illinois. After graduating from Rock Island High School, Sylvia worked as a bookkeeper, co-owned a craft store in Park View, was a teachers aid at North Scott Junior High School, and then a stay-at-home mom.
Sylvia married the love of her life Anthony “Big Tony” Tarchinski on January 25, 1964. They had two sons, Anthony, Jr. and Scott.
Sylvia enjoyed traveling all over the world, playing golf, and gambling with Tony. She took great pleasure entertaining family during the holidays. But most of all Sylvia loved spending time with her grandchildren doing crafts, building forts in the kitchen, and having tea parties.
Sylvia is survived by her sons Anthony (Connie) Tarchinski, Jr., of DeWitt, IA, and Scott (Patricia) Tarchinski of DeWitt, IA; grandchildren Aaron (Dustin) Tarchinski-Ash, Katherine (Jesse) Brackey, Eden (Nick) Johnson, Trevor Tarchinski, and Elizabeth Tarchinski; great grandchild Forest Johnson; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Ann Tolbert, Evelyn (Joe) Everhart, Nick (Le Anne) Tarchinski, Tom (Sally) Tarchinski, Kathy Picone, Dave Pfitzenmaier, and Thomas Sunderbruch, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Anthony Tarchinski Sr.; her parents Galon and Pauline Holzer; in-laws Tony and Kate Tarchinski; sisters-in-law Judy Sunderbruch, Teresa Pfitzenmaier, and Karen Tarchinski; brothers-in-law John Tarchinski, John Tolbert, and Joe Picone.
A visitation will be held at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Friday, August 8, 2025.
The family of Sylvia Tarchinski would like to thank the staff at The Summit in Bettendorf and St. Croix Hospice for their amazing care and support for Sylvia and her family.
