Suzann M. "Sue" Garcia

Funeral services celebrating the life of Suzann “Sue” Garcia, 89, of Davenport, will be held at 1 pm on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Burial will follow in Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 11 am until time of services at the funeral home.   

Mrs. Garcia passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at her home.  

Suzann Mae Johnston was born May 19, 1935, in Davenport, a daughter of Arthur “Paul” and Irene (Erickson) Johnston.  She was united in marriage to George Garcia on February 18, 1954, in Iowa City, and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1992.

Sue enjoyed reading, quilting, traveling, playing canasta with her card club, catching up with her “schoolgirl” friends.  She had been a Girl Scout Leader for over 25 years and was honored to be named Outstanding Girl Scout Leader of the Year.  She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years before Girl Scouting took hold of her heart and talent of mentoring young girls.  

Survivors include children Paul (Sheila) Garcia, Oakland, TN, Lisa (Tom Ward) McDanel, Protivin, IA, Sherry (Richard) Tompkins, Jacksonville, FL. Of her eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, she had a special bond with Eric, Michelle, Megan, Madison, and Blake.  Additionally, she is survived by sisters Dena Wade, Collinsville, OK, and Paula Lienard, Orlando, FL; and many loving nieces and nephews of the Garcia and Johnston families who were a huge part of her life.

In addition to her husband George, she was preceded in death by their daughter Judy Garcia-Schroeder, brothers-in-law John Wade, Paul Lienard, and 22 of her 23 Garcia in-laws.
