Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Steven J. Schebler, 75, of Blue Grass, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Blue Grass. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with additional visitation Tuesday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date. Steve died Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.
Steven Joseph Schebler was born on October 17, 1948 in Davenport, a son of Richard F. and Rita (Bredar) Schebler. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1966 and Iowa State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Steve was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity at ISU. Steve was united in marriage to Irene Plocke on July 27, 1968 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. They have shared over 55 years of marriage and adventures together.
Steve joined Stanley Consultants on June 1, 1970, in the Operations/Power Group. He was promoted to senior engineer in 1977; principal engineer in 1979; mechanical department manager in 1980; chief mechanical engineer in 1988; vice president in 1990; project principal in 1996; market leader for Power and Energy Group and senior vice president in 2004; business leader for Energy in 2009; and elected Director to SC Companies, Inc., in 2012. Steve retired on March 18, 2016 as Senior Vice President in Energy Business.
Steve achieved his first Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in 1974, holding a P.E. license in 11 states. He also authored numerous papers throughout his career. Steve’s leadership, expertise, and determination was instrumental in building the strong Power Generation Group at Stanley. His commitment to client service created long-term relationships and a great reputation in the Utility Market. Steve had the opportunity to see 22 foreign countries and all 50 states during his 46-year career, while forming life-long friendships with many people, clients, and members. Steve flew more than 1,000,000 miles throughout his career. He had many highlights during his career, one of them being named a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky to recognize his valuable work to the state.
Steve loved to bring his family together and truly enjoyed building things to last whether they be power plants, structures, classic cars or relationships. He had a great love of fishing, hunting, and American made whiskey.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Irene, Blue Grass; sons: Jim (Kelly Sinclair) Schebler, Klemme, Iowa, Dan (Veronica) Schebler, Muscatine, Richard (Sabrina Meridith) Schebler, Pella, and Steven “Ted” Schebler, Blue Grass; grandchildren: Vincent, Valentina, Ashley (Kyle), Amber, Alicia (Mason), Anna; great-grandchildren: Abigail, Madison, Dublin, Mason, and Emmett; siblings: Michael (Kay) Schebler, Odenton, Maryland, Teresa “Teri” Martin, Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Martha “Merto” Niemi. May they rest in peace.
