Steven Havercamp passed away at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island Medical Center in Rock Island, Illinois. A time to celebrate Steven’s life will be held at the Outing Club on July 19, 2025 from 12 - 2 pm., at 2109 N. Brady Street, Davenport, Iowa. A private service for family and close friends will be held at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport.
Steven was born on June 10, 1965, the son of Jim and Betty (Criger) Havercamp. He graduated from Bettendorf High School and went on to attend the University of Northern Iowa for his undergraduate and graduate studies. He attended Drake University Law School where he was also a member of The Drake Law Review.
Steven married Kanokporn (“Nan”) Poontakong in April of 2014 and they remained happily married for 11 years. Nan provided loving care and comfort to Steven at home during his last year with ALS .
Following graduation from Drake University Law School in 1998, Steven clerked for an Iowa Supreme Court Justice for one year. Following his clerkship, he practiced law with the Iowa law firm of Stanley, Lande & Hunter. Steven practiced law principally in the areas of Construction Law and Commercial Litigation, including General Litigation and Appeals.
Steven was admitted to practice in both Iowa and Illinois State Courts and U.S. District Courts of Iowa and Illinois. He successfully tried and argued cases before the Iowa Court of Appeals and Iowa Supreme Court.
Additional Associations and Memberships included Friends of the Davenport Museum of Art; Davenport Museum of Art Foundation; Davenport Museum of Art; Habitat for Humanity - Quad Cities; Figge Museum of Art (Charter Member); and Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Society. Steven participated in Pro Bono activities that included H.E.L.P. Legal Aid, Iowa Mock Trial Program -Judge. He received a Supreme Court of Iowa Pro Bono Attorney Award in 2000.
In addition to his legal career, Steven was very active riding his bike, traveling with his wife Nan, skiing and playing golf throughout his life. When he wasn’t arguing legal cases, he was happy spending time outdoors, something he enjoyed his entire life.
Steven is survived by his spouse, Nan Havercamp, step-children Noosarin Wantaisong (Ann) and Pattarakorn Ketprasit (Ramadon), his sister Lynn (Havercamp) Baer and husband John, nephew Michael, niece Megan and many cousins.
