Steve was born on April 11, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa, to Allen Calvin and Doris Mae (Wells) Raney. On September 1, 1973, he married Paula Jean (Laird) Raney at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. They shared 52 years of marriage and countless cherished memories.
A proud retired police officer, Steve served with the Davenport Police Department for 38 years (1972-2010), earning numerous commendations, including American Legion Officer of the Year and KIBJ-TV Officer of the Month. After retiring from the police force, he worked for several years at the Davenport Duck Creek Golf Course. His commitment to community service extended beyond his profession—he was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 24, a Little League baseball coach, and a Junior Achievement advisor.
Steve was a devoted husband and father who treasured spending time with family and friends. Known for his handyman skills, he was always ready to tackle home repairs. In his younger years, Steve enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was an avid bowler, competing in local leagues, and a lifetime member of the 700 Series Club. Steve traveled to Chicago to bowl in the Peterson Classic and to participate in the Men's National ABC Tournaments. He was an active member of the Davenport Police Association, Local 2, a lifetime member of the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers, and a member of the Iowa State Policemen's Association. He also served as a board member for the Iowa State Police Collective Bargaining Unit. In his later years, Steve and Paula enjoyed traveling abroad and taking numerous cruises.
Steve is survived by his wife, Paula, and their sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Jessica Raney of Yorkville, IL, and Sean and Danielle Raney of Dallas, TX. He also leaves behind grandchildren Connor and Audrey Raney of Dallas, TX, and Gavin Raney of Yorkville, IL. He is further survived by his brother Richard (Lori) Raney of West Branch, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
