Stephen “Steve” Hahn Sr, 76, of Davenport, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026, at his home following a brief illness. Per his request cremation has been accorded and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family or Kings Harvest Pet Rescue.
Stephen Thomas Hahn was born June 28, 1949, in Davenport to Edward Randall and Elizabeth Mae (Matkovich) Hahn. He met his future wife Catherine “Cathie” Taylor when they were kids. Their paths crossed over the years until they finally decided it was meant to be and they were united in marriage on December 23, 1984.
Prior to his retirement, Steve had been the head of maintenance at the former Streiter Motor Company in Davenport.
To his family, he was quite simply the best husband in the world. He was the type of person to give you the shirt off his back and always placed the needs of others before his. He took great pride in caring for his grandchildren, finding joy in every moment spent with them and teaching by example the values of responsibility, patience, and love.
At home, he could often be found in his garage, happily working on projects and fixing items others had cast aside. He had a remarkable ability to see potential where others saw nothing, taking satisfaction in restoring, repairing, and making things useful again. His attention to detail extended outdoors as well, he was particular about his yard and always had the greenest lawn in the neighborhood.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Cathie; children Mary Carlton, Steve Hahn Jr, Christine Hahn, all of Davenport, Michael Hahn of Coal Valley; grandchildren Kristofer (Brianna) Hashaway, Albert Coats III, Shantelle (Jake) Brooks; great grandchildren Kishawn Coats, Jeremiah and Aliyah Hashaway, and Robert and James Brooks; brothers Richard “Dick” Hahn of Cambridge, IL, and Edward (Candi) Hahn of Davenport; “sister” Eva Knepp; and best friend of over 40 years Ed (Barb) Bernauer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Margaret “Peggy” Hahn and Mary Jungjohann.
