Shawn Leo Kavanaugh, 61, of Davenport, died Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in Davenport.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Shawn will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the Mass in the gathering space at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Memorials may be to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.

Shawn Leo Kavanaugh was born on June 25, 1965, in Davenport, a son of Gerald Lee and Jean Marie (Welzenbach) Kavanaugh. He graduated from Davenport West in 1983. Shawn was united in marriage to Sonya Ann Brookstra on January 31, 1997. Shawn worked for Acme Sign, Electronic Technical Services, and later for CAT Scale.

Shawn had a great love of family, especially his son, James, who meant everything to him. He had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, and could make a friend just about anywhere he went. Shawn was a big Green Bay Packers fan and loved NASCAR, especially Mark Martin and the No. 6 car. Shawn enjoyed listening to classic rock, cooking, and firing up the grill. Shawn was the kind of guy who enjoyed the simple things in life, good food, good music, good friends, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Those left to honor his memory are his son, James Kavanaugh, stepdaughter, Stevi Schaapveld, both of Davenport; granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann Brookstra Kavanaugh and Allison Jean Brookstra Kavanaugh; father, Gerald Kavanaugh, all of Davenport; sisters: Erin (Marvin) Smith, St. Louis, Missouri, Kathleen (Pat) Kilfoy, and Colleen (Kevin) Kahley, all of Davenport as well as many nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Shawn was preceded in death by his mother, Jean, and brother, Kevin. May they all rest in God’s eternal peace.
