Scot Gregory Nelson was born on May 22, 1952 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the eldest son of Helen and Jack Nelson. He attended University of Detroit High School and graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1969 with highest honors. He then attended the University of Iowa of which he remained a lifelong fan of the Hawkeyes. At Davenport Central, he met the love of his life, Valerie Ramirez and they were united in marriage in August of 1971 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. They have shared over 53 years of fulfilling life together and two wonderful children: Laura and Scot and three grandchildren: Margaret, Catie, and Connor Kelly.
Scot worked nearly 40 years at Sears Manufacturing.
The loss of Scot is immeasurable. His greatest love was his home and family. He was an excellent cook and loved cooking for his family. Scot had a brilliant mind and was an avid reader and lover of music, attending hundreds of concerts throughout his life. Scott enjoyed the many summers spent in South Haven Michigan boating and fishing on Lake Michigan. Scot coached Dad’s Club soccer in the early 80’s, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play the beautiful game as well.
Those left to cherish Scot’s memory are his wife, Valerie; children: Laura and Scot Nelson, Jr.; grandchildren: Margaret, Catie, and Connor; and siblings: Mark Nelson, Todd (Sharon) Nelson, and Krystin (Dan) Scholten as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kim Nelson, his mother and father-in-law, Anne and Pete Ramirez, brother-in-law, Marty Ramirez, and a sister-in-law, Christine Cossin. May they rest in eternal peace.
