Sally Sue Swarm was born on November 21, 1949 in Davenport, a daughter of John H. “Johnny” and Julia “Petie” (Miller) Swarm. She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan and later earned her master’s degree from Marycrest College. She was united in marriage to Morgan “Morg” J. Tobin on June 19, 1981 in Eldridge. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2019.

Following graduation, Sally’s first teaching job was in Carthage, Illinois at the high school, teaching gym and coaching the cheerleading squad. She eventually retired from North Scott High School following over 25 years of teaching in the special education department. She loved her students and fondly shared stories of her time there.

Sally had a great passion for the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially their football team. She loved her many dogs she had over the years: Kally K., Maisy, Gracie, and Cooper. Sally was a fiercely loyal friend, who treated everyone she knew as a part of her family. One of Sally’s favorite things to do was to travel, especially with her family and grandchildren, all of whom she loved so dearly. The memories of those trips are something that her family will have to forever hold dear in their hearts.

Sally’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Noreen Warren, who has been a wonderful friend and caregiver. Sally enjoyed their Thursdays together, giving her family comfort and peace of mind, and bringing a smile to Sally’s face. Sally’s family would also like to recognize Allyn Krug, whose reconnection with Sally brought joy and solace. Her bedside presence in Sally’s final moments will be a gift that Sally’s daughters, will forever cherish.

Sally’s family would also like to thank Grand Haven Retirement Community, specifically the caregivers in their Moments wing, Jamie, and Carley, who went above and beyond in their care for Sally. Sally received wonderful and compassionate care from Genesis VNA, Palliative and Hospice and her family would like to especially thank her nurses, Marci and Lori, and Nurse Practitioner, Julie Wheeler.

Those left to honor her memory are her brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Marilyn Swarm, St. Petersburg, Florida, children: Steve (Melissa) Tobin, Eldridge, Theresa “Tess” (Craig) Tobin-Seghers, Long Grove, Sarah (John) Manthey, Eldridge; grandchildren: Blaise, Morgan, Westen, Gunnar, MacKenzie, and Maddie; nephews, Tom (Liberty) Swarm and Jeff (Pam) Swarm, all of Bettendorf; and a sister-in-law, Inez Tobin, Eldridge.

In addition to her husband, Morg, Sally was preceded in death by her parents.
