Bettendorf

Ruth “Ruthie” Elizabeth Bertram, 80, of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at MercyOne – Genesis Medical Center in Davenport. In keeping with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a Celebration of Life planned for the spring of 2026. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that was close to her heart, and to The University of Iowa Women’s Basketball program, reflecting her joy in cheering for the team she loved.

Born October 9, 1945, in Davenport, Ruthie was the beloved daughter of Leo and Betty Lorence. She graduated from Assumption High School and later earned her nursing degree from Marycrest College. Alongside her career as a registered nurse, she also worked as a courier—a role that suited her perfectly, as she cherished the simple joy of driving and found peace on the open road.

Ruthie embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. She enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles, dancing, dining out, and staying active. A passionate runner, she completed The Bix several times and was a proud member of the Cornbelt Running Club. Known for her vibrant sense of style, Ruthie delighted in beautiful clothing and jewelry, wearing each piece with grace and confidence. Most importantly, she held her family close to her heart and shared a uniquely strong and loving bond with her daughter, Jessica.

Those left to honor Ruthie’s memory include her daughter, Jessica Bertram of St. Paul, MN; her son, Sean (Ann) Skelley of Seattle, WA; stepson, Scott Bertram of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Lauren Skelley of Portland, OR, and Kristin Ballerstedt of Berlin, Germany; sister, Sharron (Bob) Solis of Davenport; and brothers, Michael (Diana) Lorence of Williamsburg, VA, and Mark Lorence of Southern Pines, NC.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents.

She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
