Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Rosemary Burken, (90), a resident of Davenport, will be at 10:00am, Friday May 16th, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 4105 N. Division Street, Davenport. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in in charge of the arrangements.
Rosemary Jenkins was born September 13, 1934, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Ora (Jack) and Elizabeth Jenkins. She was united in marriage to Loren F. Burken on June 23, 1956, in St. Henry’s Catholic Church, LeClaire, Iowa.
Rosemary graduated with a BA from St. Ambrose University and an MA from the University of Iowa. She taught in several Bettendorf schools and at Wilson Elementary in Davenport, retiring after thirty-nine years as an educator. Rosemary was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church; a lifetime member of the University of Iowa Alumni, and the National Educational Association; after retirement, Rosemary joined the local and state retired school personnel (DARSPA and IRSPA).
Rosemary cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling on cruises and visiting Hawaii, Ireland and several countries in Europe. Rosemary loved to read and always had a book nearby to enjoy.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Foundation, Ridgecrest Village Foundation, American Heart Association, or an organization of your choice.
Those left to honor her memory are sons Steven (Carol) of Camdenton, MO, Patrick (Debbie) of Sun Prairie, WI, Donald of Houston, TX, and Todd (Diana) of Cedar Rapids, IA ; ten grandchildren: Jenna(Ben), Jay, Kim, Laura(Aaron), Carrie, Ellen, Jonathan(Alexandra), Payton, Mason, Caleb; four great-grandchildren: Nathan, Joshua, Hazel, Charlotte; in-laws Dick (Mary Ann), Jim (Judy), and Jan; and several nieces and nephews.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband Loren, her parents Ora and Elizabeth, her sisters Norma Hughes and Darlene Nolan; brothers Robert and infant Donald James Jenkins.
The family would like to extend a special note of thanks to Genesis Hospice and the staff at Ridgecrest for their outstanding care for Rosemary throughout the years.
