Ronald K. Mau, 81, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, November 16, 2025 at MercyOne-Genesis Medical Center, Davenport surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
A time to gather and celebrate Ron’s life will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport followed by a time of sharing at 6 p.m. Private family burial will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Ronald Kent Mau was born on March 5, 1944 in Davenport, a son of Robert and Velma (Winters) Mau. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1962 and attended the University of Nebraska on a wrestling scholarship. Ron served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Following his discharge from the Army, Ron went to work at the Rock Island Arsenal as an apprentice machinist and later transferred to process planning and also did some estimating. He retired in 2002 following 36 years of service.
Ron was a talented woodworker, making many well-crafted items for family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, especially during the summer months he and Cheryl enjoyed spending their summers at “In The Wilds Resort” with their family and friends. He also enjoyed taking care of his yard, planting and cultivating his garden of vegetables and flowers, telling “dad” jokes, and was quite the cook. He’ll be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to honor Ron’s memory are his wife, Cheryl, Bettendorf; children: Viktoria “Tori” (Kenny) Witt, Park View, Michael (Nikki Morrissey) Haxby, Colona, Illinois, and Ryan Mau, West Des Moines; grandchildren: Allison (William) Peach, Makis Witt, Kaleb (Athena) Haxby, Devin Haxby, and Brooklyn Mau; great-grandchildren: Kingsley, Ellie, Lydia, Nevaeh, with a great-grandson on the way; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandy (Ed) Winborn, Davenport; sisters-in-law: Debbie (Rick) Friel and Peggy Williams and nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by a grandchild, Cade Morrissey, his parents, and siblings, Gary Mau and Denise Griffin. May they rest in peace.
