Ronald L. Fincham of Eldridge, Iowa and longtime resident of Nevada, Iowa passed away March 9, 2023 at Genesis East in Davenport, Iowa. 

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held at a later date at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Nevada, Iowa at a later date. Burial will be at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Gilbert, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Labre Indian School. P.O. Box 216 Ashland, MT. 59003, St. Joseph’s Indian School. P.O. Box 326 Clamberlan, SD 57326, or St. Patrick’s Church in Nevada, IA.

            Ron was born in Waterloo, Iowa, October 12, 1932, the son of Lloyd and Vera (Baker) Fincham. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1950 and attended the University of Dubuque. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Corbin, June 9, 1951.

            Ron loved his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be remembered as being a sports enthusiast cheering for his favorite teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and Green Bay Packers. He was inducted into the High School Hall of Fame in 2003 and was instrumental in forming the Nevada Soccer Club. He served on the High School Hall of Fame committee for 19 years before moving to Eldridge, IA in 2010.

            Ron worked in retail most of his life, retiring in 1998. Stints with Sears-Roebuck, Interstate Finance Corp.- Davenport, and Soccer Supplies of America - Chicago. He owned and operated Ron’s Sporting Goods with Midwest Trophy World for 22 years and retired managing the Coastal Mart in Nevada.

            He is survived by children, Rick (Annie) Fincham of Newton, Rhonda (David) Stevenson of Goldfield, Betsy (Kevin) Gibson of Ames, and Theresa (Rich) Koch of Morrison, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Mary (Paul) Rockton, Illinois; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2017; son, Paul; and grandchild, Kelsey Egan.
