Obituary

Rodney Charles Gipson, 64, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 1, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. A memorial service to celebrate Rod’s life will take place the following morning, Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In honor of Rod's love for classic cars, family and friends are invited to drive their classic cars to the funeral home on the day of the service (weather permitting!).

Rod was born on April 26, 1962, in Davenport, the son of Charles Junior and Marjorie Mae (Timmerman) Gipson. He grew up active in 4-H, a foundation that fostered his lifelong appreciation for hard work and the outdoors. Rod attended Tipton High School and went on to graduate from West High School in Davenport. Following high school, he earned a degree in autobody from Scott Community College in 1983.

On June 10, 1995, Rod was united in marriage to Judy Fandel in Tipton, Iowa. Together, they raised two sons, Jacob and Kaleb, who were Rod's absolute pride and joy. He spent countless years cheering them on from the sidelines during their various sports activities.

Throughout his career, Rod was a dedicated worker at John’s Towing and Tri-City Electric. Outside of work, Rod was happiest when collecting and restoring classic cars, hunting, fishing, or hunting for a bargain at auctions, flea markets, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace. He was also an artist at heart, creating beautiful stained-glass windows. In quieter moments, Rod loved relaxing with a good western or a car show, but above all else, he valued being a loyal friend and a devoted family man. His granddaughter, Ava, held a very special place in his heart.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Judy Gipson; his sons, Jacob Gipson and Kaleb Gipson (Emma Baker); his grandchildren, Ava Gipson and William Baker; his mother, Marjorie Gipson; his siblings, Annette LaFollette of Dixon, Iowa, Jeff (Michele) Gipson of Bennett, Iowa, and Yvonne Carlson of Davenport; as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Gipson; grandparents, Julius and Martha Timmerman, and Melvin and Ruby Gipson; parents-in-law, Ralph and Mary Fandel; brothers-in-law, Tom Carlson, Ron Cummins, David Erusha, and Mike Fandel; and nephew, Ross Erdmann.
