Roberta M. Potter

Roberta M. Potter, 87, of Davenport, died on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Abilene, Texas.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Roberta will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with additional visitation on Friday in the gathering space at church from 9 until Mass begins.

Roberta M. Baker was born on May 30, 1939, in Davenport, a daughter of Robert and Leota (Van Fossen) Baker. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1958. Roberta was united in marriage to Ronald C. Potter on September 20, 1958, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. Ron preceded her in death on May 23, 1999, following over 40 years of marriage.

Roberta served with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office for thirty-seven years. She started as a jailer and worked her way to being promoted as the first female lieutenant in the Sheriff’s Office. While working in the criminal investigations unit, she ran the child abuse division and had the highest conviction rate in the country. Roberta retired in 2002.

Roberta was a true “fashionista,” always dressing in beautiful suits and looking her best. She had a wonderful sense of style and took pride in her appearance, always knowing how to put together the perfect outfit. Roberta also enjoyed being outside, especially if it involved camping, boating, and fishing. She was a member of the Elks Lodge, serving on their board, as well as a longtime member of the Iowa State Police Association.

Those left to honor Roberta’s memory are her daughter and sons-in-law, Becky (James) Jones, Abilene, Texas and Matt Lucas, Always on the Run, USA; grandchildren: Samantha (Oscar) Baladez and Caroline Mayfield, all of Abilene, Texas; great-grandchildren: Madeline and Lucas, and a sister, Beverly Baker.

In addition to her husband, Roberta was preceded in death by her daughter “Rachelle “Shelley” Lucas, her parents, and siblings: Gary Baker and Bonnie Williams. May they all rest in God’s eternal peace.
