Robert Thomas Burns was born May 9, 1938, in Appleton, WI, a son of Robert and Dorothy (Sell) Burns. Tom met his wife Marge while working at S.S. Kresge’s store together. After many attempts Marge finally said yes to a date and for the next 63 years they were married.
In 1966 Tom and Marge moved to Iowa, where he worked for Abrahams and Lohse Automotive. After many years in the automotive business, he decided to open his own Wilton Auto and Farm Supply. Later in life he worked for Hy-Vee delivering flowers and pharmacy orders.
Tom had a zest for life, enjoyed gardening and cooking. Tom was always there to lend a hand to whoever needed one. Tom was well known for his “famous” lumpia and during the holiday, along with his Thanksgiving spread, especially his dressing!
He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Marge; children Mike (Roxanna) Burns, Davenport, Mark Burns, Davenport, Mindy (Harlan) Buxbaum, West Des Moines, David Burns and Steve Burns, Florence, KY; grandchildren Brad Burns, Jacob Burns, Mackenzi Burns, Parker Burns, Ashten (Adam) Smith, Jordan Buxbaum, Juliana Burns, Andrew Burns, William Burns, Bridget Burns, Lauren Burns; brother Richard (Terry) Burns, Skiatook, OK; and sister Debra (Marshall) Walz, Burlington, IA.
