Rita U. Schuck

Rita U. Schuck, 93, of Davenport, died Friday, November 7, 2025 at Senior Star, Davenport surrounded by her family. 

Funeral services and Mass of Christan Burial for Rita will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Parish. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Rita Unterboersch was born on October 7, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa, the only child born to Joseph and Eenefa (Lockman) Unterboersch. She was Class President of her graduating class at St. Mary’s High School, Waterloo. Rita was united in marriage to Richard W. Schuck on August 25, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waterloo. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2006, following over 52 years of marriage together. 

After high school, Rita worked as a telephone operator, then as a manager. After marrying Dick, they moved to New York while he was in the Service and she worked at a dress shop. Rita’s most rewarding work was as a mother to her four children and being a devoted wife to Dick. Later in life, she worked at Fidlar Printing during election seasons and also at the Plaid Rabbit in the East Village of Davenport. 

Known as “the cookie lady,” Rita spread joy to many through her fantastic meals and especially, her cookies. She enjoyed baking cookies with her children and making crafts for the Holy Family Bazaar. She was an avid gardener as well, and the fruits of her labor often appeared in the meals she prepared for her family. She also enjoyed oil painting and toll painting, sharing these treasured works of art with family and friends.

 Those left to honor her memory are her children: Richard W. Schuck, Jr., Leawood, Kansas, Susan Schuck, Bettendorf, Sara (Vince) Ryan, Davenport, and Robin Tuczak, Fairfax, Virginia; grandchildren: Meghan (Trevor) Polk, Iowa City, Keelan Ryan, Davenport, Liam Ryan, Davenport; Logan Tuczak, Richmond, Virginia, and Alexandra Tuczak, Falls Church, Virginia; and great-grandchildren: Fiadh Polk and Fionn Polk. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. May they rest in peace.
