Rita Schillig

Rita Schillig, 95, of Davenport, passed away, Monday, March 2, 2026 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, March 6, 2026 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 9:30 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.

Rita was born on August 27, 1930 a daughter of Walter and Rose (Nowak) Kawa. She was united in marriage to William Schillig on October 28, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2009.

Rita was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and a volunteer at CASI. She enjoyed polka and country music and her weekly square dancing. She could often be found in her garden tending to her flowers and vegetables. She was an amazing cook and especially enjoyed making cakes. Rita also enjoyed looking for treasures at DAV and going out to eat. Above all else she loved her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them.

Those left to honor her memory include her children Rose (Patrick) Volgelei, Billy Joe (Sally) Schillig and Edward (Suzanne) Schillig; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, siblings Edward Kawa, Stella Martin and Mary Tippin; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings John and Walter Kawa.
