Richard Thomas Rizzo, a devoted father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2025, just shy of his 78th birthday.
Funeral services to celebrate Rick’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Private family burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery – Arsenal Island with military honors.
Rick was the kind of man who showed up — on the sidelines, in the stands, and in life. Whether cheering on his grandkids at their games, coaching Little League, or sharing stories with those he loved, he lived with a full heart and an unwavering sense of loyalty. One of his favorite stories to tell was about coaching an All-Star team from Davenport East that placed 7th at the Little League World Series in 1989 — a memory he carried with great pride.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Rick served in the 101st Airborne Division as a medical corpsman. He brought the same courage, compassion, and quiet strength to his service as he did to every part of his life.
A lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Washington Capitals, Rick was never far from a game — always cheering on his favorite teams with heart and passion.
Rick retired from both Valley Construction and the City of Davenport, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and integrity.
But more than anything, Rick adored his family. He was a rock for his children, a hero to his grandchildren, a beloved brother and uncle, and the greatest partner-in-crime to his longtime companion, Vicki, who brought light and laughter into his life every single day.
Rick is survived by his beloved partner of 35 years, Vicki Janney; his children, Matthew (Marisa) Rizzo and Michael (Jennifer) Rizzo; and his grandchildren, Caden, Drew, Emma, Harper, Leighton, and Grant Rizzo. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve (Leslie) Rizzo, Scott (Pam) Neece, Todd (Lori) Neece, Gary (Mary) Neece, and Randy (Christy) Neece; his many loving nieces and nephews; and countless close friends whose lives he touched deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Kay Neece.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, service, and deep love for the people and teams he held dear. He will be missed more than words can ever say.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local veterans organization of your choice or to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital Fund.
