Richard Ryan, age 53 of Davenport, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, July 10, 2026. Born on June 22, 1973, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Richard Ryan was the beloved son of Terry Allen Masterson and Christine Ann Pearson. He was named after his Aunt Terri Lou’s father. Richard Fritz Pearson.
Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years, stationed aboard the USS Saipan. Following his military service, he pursued his education and graduated with honors studying Computer Aided Drafting at Hamilton Technical College.
A master of his craft, Rick worked as a self-employed Master Carpenter. His creativity and skill were well known throughout the community, especially through his work with his employment at Circa 21 Playhouse. He poured his heart into his projects, most recently bringing magic to the stage by creating the set for their production of The Wizard of Oz.
Outside of his work, Rick lived life with a vibrant energy. He loved skateboarding. His videos are on YouTube skating with Tony Hawk. Rick was known as the Grandfather of the Davenport Skate Park. He worked for the city of Davenport teaching young kids to skateboard at the park. He also painted all the designs at the park. Rick always wore a black ball cap that said Security to provide a positive influence for the kids. He volunteered his time at the indoor skate park at the Center on Brady Street along with Dikki Baker. Shooting pool was his love he played in several tournaments locally and recently qualified to play in the American Cue Sports (ACS) sanctioned local pool league. [1, 2]
As a young boy he learned to draw to scale and build from his father, in recent years he loved to remind his Dad that some of his skills were old-school. He also spent many hours with his Mom fishing, hiking, mushroom hunting, and camping on the river banks along with many fishing trips up north.
Rick never met a stranger. He knew everyone, was a loyal friend, and was defined by his kindness and a constant, welcoming smile.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rick is survived by his parents, Terry and Christine; his aunts and uncles, Carol (Harold) Zindle, Don (Sharon) Masterson, Ruth (Ken) Soedt, Dave (Maria) Masterson, Patti Pearson, Terri Lou (Gary) Neuzil, Donald Beam and his God sister, Christine Ann Manlapao; many beloved cousins and extended family members; and his best friend, Dikki Baker and his beloved dogs Ollie and Skipper.
Rick was preceded in death by his Grandparents Ruth & Robert Johnson, Evelyn & Harry Masterson and his Uncle’s Jerry Pearson & Bernie Masterson.
