Richard J. Poster

Richard J. Poster, 86, of Davenport, formerly of Blue Grass, died Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Dick will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with a prayer service offered at 6 p.m.  Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus Parish or Alleman High School.

Dick was born on August 21, 1937 in Moline, Illinois, a son of Jacob and Marie (Wurst) Poster.  He graduated from Alleman High School. Dick proudly served our country in the Army from 1957 until 1960.  He was united in marriage to Barbara A. Pauwels on January 25, 1964 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline.  She preceded him in death on August 24, 2017 following 53 years of marriage and memories together.

Dick retired from ALCOA as a supervisor following 37 years of service in 1993.  He later worked for Hot Shots Pharmacy in Davenport.

Dick cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.  He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and bowled in the Knights of Columbus bowling league for many years.

Those left to honor his memory are his children and their spouses, Rick (Steve Phan) Poster, Silver Spring, Maryland, Mike (Kelly) Poster, Davenport, Beth (Rod) Burnett, North Liberty, Iowa, and Dan (Allison) Poster, Dubuque, Iowa, grandchildren, Caitlin, Jake, Bridget, Caleb, Nathan, Ellie, Isaac, Payton and Jack.

In addition to his wife, Barb, Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

The Poster family would like to thank everyone at the Kahl Home for the compassionate care they provided to Dick.
