Richard Lee Plambeck was born on July 10, 1946, in Davenport, a son of Ervin W. and Alice A (Suhr) Plambeck. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1965 where he ran track. Dick proudly served our county in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was a communications Tech Recorder (CTR3), primarily stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Dick was united in marriage to Evelyn A. “Evie” Ellis on February 28, 1970, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

Dick retired from Laborers Local #309 as a concrete laborer . He was a 50-year union member.

Dick was old-school in a good way. He had a deep love for music and built an incredible vinyl LP collection, which he began while stationed in Germany. Some of his happiest memories were spent at the family cabin along the Wapsi River. He was also a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears. Together, Evie and Dick dedicated more than 30 years to chairing a committee for the annual Bix 7 road race.

Those left to honor Dick’s memory are his wife, Evelyn “Evie” Plambeck; sons, Matt Plambeck and Chad Plambeck, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Brittany (Sepe) Kalhor, Rock Island and Brendan Linville, Davenport; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Lois (Jim) Spitzmiller, San Tan Valley, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kara Linville and his parents.

The Plambeck family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals especially those on the Neuroscience team for the compassionate and dedicated care shown to Dick.
