Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3864 Rockingham Road, Davenport. His family will greet friends from 10:00 am until the church service at 11:00 am. Lunch will be served immediately following the church service. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park immediately following the luncheon. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Richard was born on March 2, 1947, in Grand Island, Nebraska, the son of Lowell and Mary (English) McKown. He was united in marriage to his best friend, Diane Backstrom, on June 10, 1967.
Richard worked for Lindquist Ford for 40 years, where he painted automobiles. He was a very skilled man; he always seemed to have the parts, tools, or nuts and bolts to fix just about anything. The definition of a “handyman”. He loved racing motorcycles and enjoyed all things motorized. In addition to racing, he enjoyed shooting BB guns, bowling, fishing, and setting off his 4th of July black powder cannon.
He cared deeply for his family and never missed an opportunity to say, “I love you”. He was very involved with the church and was on the finance committee for 50 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Diane; children, Sherry (Michael) Foster, Richard Jr. (Teresa) McKown, and Robert (Lindsay) McKown; grandchildren, Adam, Brandon, Dawson, Ryan, Blake, Tianna, Henry, Harry, Berkeley, and Hazel; siblings; Janie Burkhart, and Judy Wistedt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Terry and Joyce.
A special thank you to Pastor Ferch, the angels (staff) at Clarissa Cook Hospice House and Sally (MercyOneGenesis).
