Richard Fredrick “Rick” Halfman, 66, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away at home on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Rick requested cremation rites, and a celebration of life will take place at Los Amigos, Bettendorf, on November 1st, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Rick was born on October 9, 1958, in Davenport, to Richard and Bernitta (Elvidge) Halfman. He attended trade school after high school, where he became a skilled carpenter. His hands were skilled, capable of transforming raw materials into beautiful creations that stood the test of time. Rick took immense pride in his work, believing firmly in the value of fair labor and community support. His fellow union members respected him not only for his skills but also for his unwavering willingness to help others.
An avid fan, Rick had a particular fondness for the Iowa Hawkeyes, passionately supporting the team through thick and thin. His love for sports extended to a great appreciation for NASCAR, especially the legendary Earnhardt family. Many cherished moments were spent watching races, sharing excitement with his best friend, Mike Dahms.
Some of the greatest joys in Rick’s life were his beloved grandchildren. He treasured time spent with them. He often filled their lives with laughter, sharing jokes and stories that created lasting memories.
Rick is survived by his sisters; Elizabeth “Beth” Halfman, Bettendorf, and Susan Bonds, Arkansas; preceded in death by his niece and nephew, Jennifer Bonds and Michael Bonds, survived also by his stepchildren, James (Mary) Kauffman, Wisconsin, and Amanda Kauffman, Davenport, and “son-in-law” Gary Andrade, Davenport; nieces, Amanda (Joseph) Thibodeaux, and Katie Halfman; nephew, Daniel Halfman; grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica), Jishaun, Molly, Maddie, Bailey, and Connor.
He was preceded in death by his soulmate of 38 years, Peg Kauffman, his parents, siblings, Janis Halfman-Higbee, and Michael J. Halfman.
