Rebecca "Becky" Stender

   Rebecca "Becky" Stender, age 69, of Davenport, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Silvercrest Garner Senior Living, Davenport. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 pm, Monday, July 31, 2023 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley in honor of Becky Stender.  

Becky was born on June 2, 1954 in Davenport to Michael and Alberta (Garcia) Rodriguez. She attended West High school where she was an active member of the cheerleading squad and graduated in 1972.  In 1974 Becky was united in marriage to Jim Schmidt and they had four children.  In 1994 she was united in marriage to Randy Stender and they had one child. Becky and Randy spent over 25 years side by side. He preceded her in death in 2019.

Although she lost her rock Becky always cherished her family.  She was the “boss” over her 10 siblings and their children for so many years, family picnics where never the same without her in charge.  Becky had worked for over 25 years as a custodian within the Davenport Schools retiring in 2016, but Becky and Randy’s work days never really ended.  They spent countless days and nights doing “side jobs” for nearly everyone in their family and many friends within our community.  She had been a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Anthony Catholic Church. She enjoyed the running community being active within the Cornbelt running club and running the Bix with her family. Becky thoroughly enjoyed working out at the YMCA.  

Survivors include her children, Matthew (Kari Hanson) Schmidt, Tawny (Nate) Stoffregen, Trena (Mike) Coffey, Tammy Schmidt, and Brady (Annie) Stender; grandchildren, Alexis and Aiden Schmidt, Bella, Gabby, Gavin, and Brady Stoffregen, Hudson, Ella, and James Coffey; mother Alberta Rodriguez; siblings, Monica Aguirre, Martha (Gary) Adams, Linda (Tony) Cawiezell, Ray Rodriguez, Martin Rodriguez, Renee (Phil) Seline, and Angela Rodriguez-Finch.

In addition to her father and husband, Becky was preceded in death by brothers, Michael and Anthony Rodriguez and a sister, Laura Holst.
