Raymond LaFrentz

May 25, 1955 — June 17, 2021

Raymond “Ray” Eugene LaFrentz, II, 66, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 17, 2021 while visiting a friend in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Ray was born May 25, 1955 in Davenport, Iowa to Raymond and Edna LaFrentz. He was united in marriage to Cindy Springmeier May 28, 1976 where they shared a beautiful life together in Bettendorf, Iowa. He worked as a diesel mechanic with Twin Bridges before joining the Pleasant Valley School District as Director of Operations, retiring in 2019 after 41 years of service.

Ray was a loving husband, father and grandpa. His wife, three children and granddaughter were his pride and joy and he loved spending time with them. He shared his love for adventure with his family by taking them on many cross-country road trips. Whether it was a true vacation or a simple parts pick up for his motorcycles, he loved being on the road. He especially loved traveling out West to camp and ride the off-road trails on his side-by-side. He had many hobbies and found joy in working on and fixing things to make them better. He did this with motorcycles, RC airplanes, computers and just about anything that involved mechanics or technology. Ray was always someone you could count on to step up in a time of need. No matter how big the task, he was there with a plan and a solution to any problem.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 45 years Cindy, and their children, Austin LaFrentz, Bettendorf; Renee (Jake) Hidy, Berthoud, Colorado; and Brian (Kaylin) LaFrentz, Le Claire; his granddaughter, Elliana; his Mother-in-law, Loretta Springmeier, Davenport; his sisters, Debe Olson, Greensboro, North Carolina; and Kay (Barry) Pence, Rock Island; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mike Henning, Davenport; Debbie (Bud) Friedholdt, Carmel, Indiana; Bob Springmeier, Davenport; Ron (Linda) Springmeier, Lake in the Hills, Illinois; Judy (Ed) Langford, Davenport; and John (Ngoc) Springmeier, Davenport; and all his loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother John LaFrentz.

Ray lived his life to the fullest. His passing is a true loss to his loved ones and the many lives he touched. In his memory, we ask everyone who knew him or reading this to take the time out of their everyday lives to seek adventure or try something new. You never know how many tomorrows you have, so make today count. Be present and enjoy life.
