Raquel Bojorquez

Raquel Bojorquez, 70, of East Moline, formerly of Davenport, died peacefully Monday, September 5, 2022 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.

 

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport.  The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting : St. Anthony Catholic Church Livestream Visitation will be Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m. in the gathering space at church.  Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Congregation of the Humility of Mary.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Raquel was born on December 2, 1951 in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, a daughter of Guadalupe Huizar and Francisco Martinez.  She was united in marriage to Manuel E. Bojorquez on March 11, 1972 in Bettendorf. They renewed their vows in the church on July 1, 1981 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Msgr. Francis Henricksen. Manuel preceded her in death on April 7, 2017.

 

Raquel’s loving and caring nature was seen through her selfless service to her family and others. Raquel dedicated her life caring for her family by nurturing her siblings and eventually, her own children. Her numerous years of public service in the community reflected the best qualities in Raquel. Her calling led her to serve as a Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher’s Aide at Holy Trinity Catholic School Davenport, Iowa and as an Interpreter at Community Health Care, Moline, Illinois.

Raquel was always on the move. She loved music and dancing, especially when her son, Gerardo’s band, Crooked Cactus, was playing. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

Survivors include her children: Rick (Margo) Bojorquez, Marion, Iowa, Alfonzo Bojorquez, Gerardo (Angie) Bojorquez, all of Davenport, Rosio (Rhonda Scott) Bojorquez, East Moline, and Lorena (Matt) Murphy, LeClaire; grandchildren: Miguel Bojorquez and Heather Weber (Ryan Benzing), Alfonzo E. II and Antonio Bojorquez, Gerardo, Gabriella, and Nickolaus Bojorquez, and Madeline and Matthew R. Murphy II; a great-granddaughter, Saylor Benzing; siblings: Francisco (Juana) Huizar, Rock Island, Gerardo (Julia) Huizar, Davenport, Rebecca Martinez, Davenport, Antonia (Henry) Godinez, Lakeland, Florida, a sister-in-law, Gloria Huizar, Joliet, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gonzalo Huizar, and a brother-in-law, Lorenzo Martinez.  May they rest in peace.
