Randall “Randy” Louis Brodersen, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on March 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his beloved wife and children. A man of boundless energy and a relentless work ethic, Randy’s life was defined by a curiosity that allowed him to master nearly anything he put his mind to.
On Sunday, March 29, 2026, a visitation will be held to honor Randy from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. This will be followed by a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. On March 30, 2026, an additional visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Saint Joan of Arc Catholic School.
Born in Anamosa, Iowa, on April 12, 1951, to Robert and Mary Ann (Westphal) Brodersen, Randy answered the call to service as a young man, serving with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His military service instilled a discipline and technical skill that followed him throughout his diverse career. Randy was a true master of all trades, beginning his professional life as a mechanic with a natural gift for machines—his family and friends knew there was truly nothing he couldn't figure out or fix. He later transitioned into the professional world as a certified insurance agent before his entrepreneurial spirit led him to found and operate his own computer business, Hi-Tek Systems, Inc.
Randy was a very active person who never stopped moving or learning. His true passion was found in the clouds; having started flying recreationally early in life, he eventually achieved his dream of becoming a pilot, flying for Carver Aero out of the Davenport Municipal Airport from which he retired. When he wasn't in the cockpit, he could be found riding his motorcycle, golfing, bicycling, swimming, walking, or at the range shooting. He was also a lifelong enthusiast of computers and electronics, always tinkering with new technology.
Beyond his technical achievements, Randy was defined by his independence, strength, and determination. He portrayed immense resilience, and his greatest strength was his heart. He loved his family fiercely and was always there for anyone who needed him. Randy had a unique gift for bonding with people through shared interests, never hesitating to adopt a new hobby just to find common ground with someone else. Most notably, he possessed a rare patience; he dealt with others' faults alongside them, never giving up on a person until they had made their way through their own personal growth.
Randy leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Marian Brodersen; children, Chad (Vicki) Brodersen, Stephanie (Joshua) Hemberger, and Vincent (Lori) Brodersen; grandchildren, Devin, Reid, Ella, Clara, Grady, Asher, Evangeline, and Myles; siblings, Roberta, Brian, and Nancy; many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Ann.
He will be missed greatly.
