Patrick Alan Gardner was born on October 8,1954 in Davenport, a son of Paul and Dorothy “Dody” (Thomas) Gardner. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1973 where he was a standout athlete, especially excelling as a pitcher on the baseball team. He continued his baseball career at Blackhawk College, where he earned a tryout with the Phillies and graduated with a degree in business.
Pat was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Susan “Susie” Bales on June 11, 1976 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. They have shared over 49 wonderful years of marriage together.
Pat worked for Sherwin Williams in industrial sales and as a store manager for 35 years. Following his retirement, he was a caregiver for his mother and mother in law and also worked for six years as a pharmacy tech for Hot Shots Nuclear Medicine.
Pat was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Whether it was Estes Park, Galena, or San Diego, he loved traveling with his family. A few of his favorite things were hiking the Rocky Mountains, walking around the town of Kennebunkport, staying at Trapp Family Lodge, sitting on the front porch at the Stanley Hotel, sipping on an aviation at Hotel Del Coronado, and visiting the Amana Colonies. On any trip, you could find him in the hotel lobby in the early morning people watching with a hot cup of coffee. Those who knew Pat best knew him to be intelligent, outspoken, and quick-witted with a laugh that was contagious to those around him. He was a proud Iowa Hawkeye supporter and enjoyed watching games with friends and family. Above all else, Pat cherished his family and never missed an opportunity to attend his children and grandchildren’s activities and games.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Susan, Davenport; daughters and sons-in-law: Kate (Brett) Panfil, Bettendorf and Erin (Adam) Miller, West Des Moines; grandchildren: Charlotte, Christian, and Collin; siblings: Paul (Rebecca) Gardner, Decorah, Iowa and Peter (Pam) Gardner, Eagle Lake, Florida.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents.
