Norma Grothus

Norma J. Grothus, 93, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting https://www.facebook.com/ololbett/videos/?ref=page_internal Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove. Visitation in the gathering space Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes from 10 AM until the Mass time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OLOL Educational Fund or Catholic Service Board.

Norma J. Oberle was born September 10, 1927 in Geneseo, Illinois, the daughter of Frank A. and Mary (Vandemore) Oberle. She attended St. Clara Academy, Sinsinawa, Wisconsin and graduated from J.D. Darnell High School, Geneseo, Illinois. She graduated from Mercy Hospital, Davenport with an RN degree and did post graduate nursing courses at the University of Iowa.

Mrs. Grothus worked at Mercy Hospital, Davenport and for Dr. W.R. Young, Geneseo.

She was united in marriage to John F. Grothus at the Saint Malachy’s Catholic Church in Geneseo. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2016 following over 64 years of marriage.

She was a member of the Mercy Hospital Alumni Association and Our Lady of Lourdes, Bettendorf.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Kathleen (Robert) Grum, Lake Geneva, WI, Timothy A. Grothus, Bettendorf, Steven T. (Mariellen) Grothus, Davenport, Dominic J. “Nick” Grothus, Bettendorf, Daniel E. Grothus, Apopka, FL, Matt (Denise) Grothus, Bettendorf; a daughter-in-law, Loni Grothus, Davenport; 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John F. Grothus, Jr., 3/7/1995; a son in infancy, Robert Anthony, siblings: Arnold and Irvin Oberle, and Dominican Sister Marie Cecile.
