Nolan Crowell, 18, of Davenport, passed away, Sunday, September 27, 2026 as a result of an automobile accident.
Visitation will be held at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport on Thursday, October 8, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Saturday, October 10, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow.
Nolan Wesley Crowell was born on April 15, 2008, to Travis and Amanda Crowell of Davenport. He was the most creative person we knew, with a mind and a way of seeing the world that were completely his own.
Our neighbors remember Nolan riding his scooter in a superhero costume, without a care in the world. Once, on a still day, he plugged in a box fan so he could fly a kite. He took apart everything—from office chairs to radios and other electronics—although putting them back together was rarely part of the plan. Playing pretend, roaming through the forest behind our home, and shooting Nerf guns were some of his favorite childhood activities.
On our annual trips to Naples, Florida, Nolan would literally pound the sand and hit the waves. He was energetic, inquisitive, and impossible to box in. He and his brothers, Justin and Conner Crowell, chased each other through the house, had splash contests at the pool, and wrestled while their dog, Tater, joined in by biting at their ankles.
As Nolan grew older, he continued to have a kind and compassionate heart, even as he struggled with his own emotions. We searched endlessly for answers and ways to help him, but never truly found them. We are especially thankful for Jace Geissinger, who was a wonderful friend to Nolan, particularly during the last few months of his life.
Nolan was gone far too soon on September 27, 2026, while driving home from Jace’s work. We find comfort in knowing that his final moments were spent happy and laughing with a friend.
Nolan will be deeply missed by many, especially his family. His grandparents, Duncan and Dianne Cameron of Bettendorf; the late Gary (Punki) Crowell, and Margie Crowell of Centerville, Iowa; and Mark and Vicki Lewis of Flowery Branch, Georgia, will miss his hugs, his compassion, and his sense of humor.
His extended family—Paul and Emily Kramer of Homewood, Illinois; Adam Kramer and Ellie Wojcikowski of Iowa City; Lucas Kramer of Homewood, Illinois; Tatum, Blythe, and Landree Marcussen of Centerville, Iowa; and Eric and Cinnamon Sullivan of Decatur, Georgia—will remember games of hide-and-seek at Grammy Camp and fishing at Grandma’s pond and on Lake Hartwell.
Nolan will also be missed by his many friends from JFK Catholic, Davenport West, and North Scott, along with the countless other people whose lives he touched along his journey.
Memorials may be made in Nolan’s honor to the Putnam Museum and Science Center in Davenport, in recognition of the curiosity and creative spirit that were such an important part of who he was.
