Nancy Ann Staats was born on October 16, 1939 in Moline, a daughter of Franklin and Mildred (Baird) Staats. She excelled as a vocalist and as a diver in competitions during her high school career. Music and swimming continued to be passions of hers during her lifetime as she loved to sit down and play her baby grand piano and loved to be at the beach.
Nancy was united in marriage to Edmund G. Hausch on September 9, 1961 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Ed preceded her in death on March 5, 2020 following 58 years of marriage and memories together.
Nancy worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for many years as an executive secretary. She retired on January 6, 1993. Ed began chauffeuring Nancy to work after she accumulated too many parking tickets for using the general’s spot. In early years, she worked at Ft. Hood while Ed was stationed there and was the only female in the office!
Nancy had a big personality and because she was always immaculately dressed with her hair and makeup perfected, she was affectionately known as “Fancy Nancy”. She was very particular about her home and loved to decorate. Her table settings and home decorating were unmatched. She loved Christmas and yearly participated in the Festival of Trees once winning recognition for her “King of Kings” tree.
Nancy was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and previous member at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church were she was the choir director for many years.
Above all else, Nancy adored her family. She was fiercely protective of her children and grandchildren and would do anything for them.
Nancy is survived by her daughters, Amy (Doug) Sheeder, Blue Grass and Ann (Chris) Stein, Davenport, her grandchildren: Ethan and Zachary Hausch, Paige, Drew, and Morgan Sheeder, Ashley (Caleb) Wessel, and Max Stein; great-grandchildren: Landri and Barrett Sheeder, a brother, Jerry Staats, and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher, a granddaughter-in-law, Alexa Sheeder, her parents, and siblings: Larry Staats and Betty McCaw. May they rest in peace.
The Hausch family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Trinity Bettendorf and at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the loving and compassionate care given to Nancy.
